DONATION OF DELAWARE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT REIMBURSEMENT
The Transportation Department of Delaware's Department of Education issues a family transportation reimbursement amount for students registered in private schools by September 30th each year. In order for a family to qualify for the reimbursement certain conditions must
be met. Preschool and pre-kindergarten students do not qualify for the family reimbursement to be made.
A
student must be five years old and in kindergarten, and also be enrolled in this
school on September 30. Families who enroll students after this date do not
qualify for a reimbursement for this term. Finally, the school must complete and
file the required paperwork with the State’s Transportation Department by
their deadline to qualify for the mailing of reimbursement payments to the
school to be passed on to parents. The school will do it’s best to insure that
the paperwork is submitted on time.
Being more present physically and health-wise this term, it is my plan to
complete and return the Transportation Department forms, enabling our school to
participate in the reimbursement program. The amount of reimbursement varies slightly
each term, however, the reimbursement amount has averaged approximately $200.00
per qualified family, not per student. This summer the Delaware legislature has
been discussing the future of the reimbursement to parents in private schools.
At this point we are hopeful that the reimbursement will still be available.
This money belongs to the qualifying families. Each year parents who are eligible to receive the reimbursement are duly informed. Payment or Donation options are made to parents. Because the school always has a number of pressing needs, primarily insufficient operational funds, a plea is made for parents to make a tax deductible contribution of all or part of the reimbursement. This year we are simply requesting that parents consider donating their reimbursement amount if available to the school to assist in its operational budget.
It would be a blessing if we would be favored to receive a one hundred percent (100%) of the tax deductible write-offs from parents. The reimbursement donations would be a blessing to help subsidize our operational costs. We are doing all we can to not raise student tuition and child care, and lunch fees for this term 2008-2009. Thank you for your consideration. We would welcome one-time payments of about $200.00 per household or the same amount or whatever can be afforded could be donated to the school in two, three, or whatever number of payment the family decides. I believe we can all see the benefit of implementing and expanding such a program. I am sure everyone who takes a part will beam with pride as students are able to later demonstrate their learning in a PTO Meeting or a perhaps short skit during a weekly chapel assemblies. If the parent indicates, naturally we will see to it that the reimbursement is written to them in part or whole by the end of the school term, as the school will not receive the full payment of reimbursements to the school in one payment.
