We find it difficult when a parent delivers and
collects a child to school without lunch or resources to purchase, and with no
comment to the teacher about his or her nurturance. Naturally, the responsible
parent realizes that it is his/her place to see to it that his or her child has
a prepared lunch to bring to school or arrangements are made to insure to
it that the child is well nourished on schedule. Anticipating student needs,
lunch is prepared daily for $2.00 per serving. Parents take care of lunch costs
by paying in advance or on the day of service. The former arrangement is
preferable over the latter because it saves precious time in record-keeping, and
also insures that the student's needs will not be overlooked because of early
morning rush. If the parent would make a deposit for lunch with the homeroom
teacher, this may serve as a back-up lunch plan and unused lunch money may be
refunded or credited to the school store for student purchases from time to time
or for a specific need. Please make deposits for lunch
separately from tuition payments. If there is no lunch money deposited with the
teacher in advance, then the student should bring his or her lunch from home or bring
money to purchase lunch items from the school store, unless the parent
is going to deliver lunch. Promised student lunch should never be delivered late.
Bag lunches should be simple, nutritious, and ample, but not wasteful or
time-consuming to prepare for the student. Items that require more than 2-3
minutes microwave time should be left at home! The staff will not have
sufficient time to go out and purchase lunch for students.
Suggested lunch staples may include: a sandwich, piece of fruit, small
bits of raw vegetables or fruit, nuts, or chips, cookies, or small snack cake,
and a beverage (hopefully, not one with high sugar content).
Teachers are not authorized to extend credit for lunch, and the office will only do so on a one day emergency basis. Your child will bring home a Lunch Menu monthly. You may also find the menu on the school’s website: www.feschool.org.
